Albuquerque –
On December 6th, 2023, APD Police Academy Sergeant Charmine Carter filed a Temporary Restraining Order in Sandoval County Courts against cadet Devin Guidry. While a cadet, Guidry had multiple incidents involving his APD-issued firearm and non-lethal equipment.
According to court documents, on November 29th, 2023, Guidry placed the barrel of his firearm in his mouth and gestured as if shooting himself in front of fellow APD police cadets. Later in class, Devin Guidry told his fellow cadet classmates, “You think I will be the only one to die. Others will die.”

The TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) goes on to state that a week later, a fellow cadet reported that during firearms training, Guidry told some of them while in a group that if they walked in front of him, they would “get a bullet in the head.”

The TRO goes on to say that the previous week, he pulled his Taser out while he and several other cadets were in the male locker room at the Police Academy and placed his Taser against a fellow cadet’s neck. Guidry bragged to fellow cadets that he had built a new gun and “could hit someone at 800 yards and clap their cheeks.”
Threats from Guidry escalated to the point where he stated that if he got fired, he would return to the Academy and start shooting. Additionally, he made mentally unstable threats while working his shift at the International Balloon Fiesta and admitted he joined APD “to create scenes.”
Guidry is currently on leave from APD, and we were informed that an internal memo has been circulated to all APD sworn and civilian staff, advising them to be on the lookout for Guidry on city property. In the event of his presence, they are instructed to immediately call for help.
In July of 2019, Guidry was involved in a shooting in Portales, New Mexico were he killed a man in self defense. The Eastern New Mexico News broke the story of that incident with Guidry that was a “large fight.”

This is the 128th APD Police Academy cadet class and they will graduate after 26 weeks of instruction.
A check of the cities transparency site shows cadet Guidry is still employed by APD.
