Jesus Secatero
Albuquerque –
Detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department have apprehended Jesus Secatero in connection with the stabbing death of Fred Tapia on January 27, 2024, outside Breaking Bud, a cannabis dispensary. Antonio Secatero, Jesus’ brother, is also being sought for Tapia’s murder.
Tapia, aged 73, and a friend were driving a truck on January 27 when they encountered two men and a woman blocking the road in front of the Breaking Bud’s smoke shop at 8715 Central Ave. N.W. The truck’s driver maneuvered around the pedestrians, but upon exiting the vehicle, the two men, Antonio and Jesus, accused the driver of attempting to run them over. Following a verbal altercation, one of the men purportedly kicked Tapia in the chest, causing him to fall.
During a physical altercation, the truck’s driver retreated to retrieve a pipe from his truck for self-defense. However, he stumbled and fell, at which point one of the men allegedly stabbed him multiple times in the upper and lower abdomen as well as his left arm.

Double Stabbing Near 86th and Central, 1 Killed & 1 Wounded
Surveillance footage from the dispensary captured the two men, later identified as 25-year-old Antonio Secatero and 24-year-old Jesus Secatero, approaching Tapia and the truck driver aggressively, both armed with knives. A thrown rock struck the driver, instigating others in the altercation to hurl rocks at each other. While the stabbing itself was not visible in the surveillance video, the Secatero brothers were observed making motions consistent with downward stabbing motions toward the truck driver’s location.
Both victims were transported to the hospital for treatment of their stab wounds. Tapia sustained lung injuries and he ultimately died as a result of his wounds.
During the investigation, detectives circulated photos from the surveillance footage among APD personnel. A cadet in the police academy recognized the suspects from previous encounters during his tenure at a non-profit clinic, where the Secatero brothers were known to frequent for services. An APD detective also noted that one of the brothers listed this clinic on their MVD records for mailing purposes and in past police encounters, the clinic’s address was listed for police and court records. On 03/02/2021 and 09/23/2021, when Jesus Secatero was arrested, the clinic’s address is listed as his mailing address.
Antonio Secatero and Jesus Secatero face charges of murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy. Jesus Secatero was booked into MDC on 02/08/2024 at 03:52 AM. At the time of this posting, Angel Secatero is still being sought by police.
