Detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) are currently investigating an incident that occurred overnight, resulting in the fatal shooting of a man in the Northeast Heights.

Officers from the Foothills Area Command promptly responded to a 911 call reporting gunshots at 1:18 AM. The reported location was an apartment complex situated at 11811 Menaul Blvd. N.E. Upon their arrival, officers conducted a thorough search of the area, ultimately discovering the deceased male near 18701 Menaul, just east of Juan Tabo Blvd. N.E.

As a result, homicide detectives have dispatched to the scene and are initiating a comprehensive investigation. Currently, APD detectives are conducting interviews with a detained individual.

Seventh Homicide Strikes Albuquerque Metro Area in April 2024

  • APD dispatched officers to 7503 Central Ave NE on April 1, 2024, responding to a homicide reported at the Loma Verde Motel.
  • On April 2nd, 2024, BCSO responded to a homicide on Corona Ave NE. In this instance, it appears that a son, who was also his mother’s caregiver, allegedly murdered her.
  • On April 6, 2024, APD’s homicide detectives investigated two homicides, one at 525 San Pedro Dr. N.E., which involved Kenneth Ellis, aged 40.
  • Another homicide happened approximately two hours later on April 6, 2024 at 608 Copper Ave. N.W.
  • On April 7, 2024, APD responded to a stabbing homicide at 12805 Dorado Dr. S.E.
  • APD responded to a domestic dispute at the 120 block of La Plata Rd NW, on April 9, 2024. Reportedly, a male sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. APD has declared this incident a justifiable homicide. Nevertheless, the Office of the Medical Investigator categorizes a justifiable homicide as still being a homicide. Furthermore, the DA’s Office is also a deciding factor in ruling whether shootings are justifiable or not.
  • Lastly, on April 11, 2024, the APD homicide detectives responded to a report of a deceased male found at 18701 Menaul Blvd.
