UPDATE: SWAT Standoff Ends, Suspect in Custody

BREAKING: The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) is sending its SWAT and Crisis Negotiating Teams to apprehend a suspect who is barricaded inside a residence near Coors Boulevard and Paseo Del Norte.

The incident began just before midnight on June 21, when APD officers responded to a shooting at 3704 Ladera Drive NW. One person was injured in the shooting and transported to a hospital.


APD’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit investigated the shooting and identified a suspect. The suspect is believed to be near 9180 Coors Boulevard NW.


The suspect is refusing to comply with arrest requests by officers and has barricaded himself inside a dwelling. The APD SWAT and Crisis Negotiating Teams are now on the scene and are working to apprehend the suspect.

The public is asked to avoid the area and to follow the instructions of the officers on the scene.

An update will be provided as more information becomes available.

UPDATE:

Just before 8:30AM on June 22nd, APD’s SWAT team took the male suspect into custody.
