Albuquerque – Around 5:40AM, the Albuquerque Police Department’s sworn graveyard PIO Chase Jewell sent out an email that there was a vehicle versus pedestrian crash at San Mateo Blvd NE and Central Ave NE.

According to Ofc. Jewell, just after 4:00AM, APD officers responded to the area to reports of two individuals that were struck by a vehicle. When Officers arrived, they located one individual in critical condition. On scene, the Officers attempted live saving measures and the individual was taken to a local area hospital, but later, they died as a result of their injuries. The other individual was also taken to the hospital, but they had non life threatening injuries.

APD Motor’s Unit has now taken over this crash investigation. Ofc. Jewell said that the Motor Unit “will be in route after clearing the scene at Coors BL NE and Sequoia RD NW.”

At the time that we were emailed by Ofc. Jewell, we were informed that all directions of travel were blocked off at Central Ave NE and San Mateo Blvd NE. APD was advising all motorists and pedestrians to please avoid the area. Ofc. Jewell said that “the scene will be blocked off for a while, due to the Motor Unit being on another call for service.”

If we get an update on this crash investigation or if traffic information is updated, we will let you know.
