Albuquerque –

Detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department were called to investigate an incident that led to severe life threatening injuries to a man today on West Central Avenue.

According to APD’s civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos officers from the Southwest Area Command promptly responded to a call just after 10:00 AM regarding a man who was unwilling to vacate a business situated at 4101 Central Ave. N.W. The business was a laundromat. The altercation reportedly escalated, resulting in an individual sustaining critical injuries. A witness on scene told us the man was arguing with an employee about a machine and some change to operate it. At some point the man became aggressive towards the employee and the man was pushed out of the way. After being pushed the man fell backwards and smashed his head on the hard floor knocking him unconscious.

Emergency responders arrived and transported the injured individual to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

While on scene we observed a man in police custody in front of the laundromat visibly upset and talking on his phone. Police did NOT have him handcuffed but he was inside the crime scene were the incident happened.

More information will be provided when and if it becomes available.
