Downtown Albuquerque –

On December 20th, 2022, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office unveiled the new memorial wall for men and women who died in the line of duty while serving with the Sheriff’s office. There are 10 individuals memorialized on the wall with the most recent in the line of duty deaths BCSO being the Metro 2 air crew who died on July 16th, 2022 in a helicopter crash.

“We wanted to do something on behalf of the ones that we we don’t want to forget. So that’s what this is about. The unveiling of the memorial wall. And what we want to make mention is that there was a lot of work put into this wall, and that work was put in by a local woodworker,” said BCSO Sheriff Manny Gonzales.

The memorial wall has a wood workings of the BCSO badge, the name of the person, a thin blue flag, and when they died in the line of duty. The wood work was contributed by David Franklin who owns 516 Woodworks.

“It’s a black flag with the blue line representing those in law enforcement. Each flag was made for each individual leaving their ring name. We also put up a flag back for their badge numbers for tying those in the middle,” said David Franklin owner of 516 Woodworks.
