NE Albuquerque – Today at around 11:30AM, the intersection of San Mateo and Montgomery Blvd. NE was the scene of a serious crash involving a Bernalillo County Sheriff deputy marked unit and a civilian car. The Sheriff’s department vehicle was rolled over on its roof top in the northbound lanes of San Mateo blocking northbound traffic. The other vehicle was observed close to the median with visible front end damage.

According to BCSO spokeswoman, Jayme Fuller-Gonzales, the deputy was transported by ambulance to the hospital with a neck injury and is expected be okay. The other driver was self-transported to the hospital to be evaluated.
Fuller-Gonzales went on to say the deputy involved in the crash was on his way to a SWAT call in the South Valley area of Albuquerque when the crash occurred. The unit’s red and blue lights were still flashing as it was upside down. Both vehicles had their airbags deployed.
The BCSO Traffic unit will investigate the crash and have findings at a later date. We will update when more information is available.
