Albuquerque – Raymond Jaquez-Barallasco is accused of slamming into vehicles who were parked in the emergency lane of I-40 Westbound near mile marker 154 in ABQ.
When rescue arrived on scene they found two victims critically injured with life threatening injuries. A female almost had to have her legs amputated just to be rescued from the mangled vehicle and a male was critically injured with head trauma. The female ultimately died at the University of New Mexico Hospital and the male was last known to be in critical, but stable condition.
According to a criminal complaint, when an officer made contact with Jaquez-Barallasco, he was crying, had red, bloodshot and watery eyes, he also had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The crying was said to be because of how severely damaged his truck was from the crash.
When the officer asked how much alcohol he had, Jaquez-Barallasco said “Just like three beers.”
Jacquez-Barallasco has been charged with Homicide by vehicle (DWI) and Great Bodily Harm by Vehicle (Driving While Under Influence of Intoxicating). A second charge could be upgraded to homicide by vehicle if the second victim dies.
