Albuquerque – We have been asked over the years just how many people actually die from fentanyl related causes. So recently we reached out to the OMI’s office through an IPRA records request and were alarmed at how many people actually die from the deadly drug in the Albuquerque metro area and encompassing Bernalillo County. The fact that OMI keeps track of this stat is scary enough to make one think.

2024 stats were unavailable since the year is new but we were provided all of 2023 records as a sample. According to OMI in all of 2023 there were 241 Fentanyl related deaths in Bernalillo County. This number is Albuquerque/Bernalillo county only and does not include the entire state. 238 of these deaths were considered accidental, while two were ruled suicide and one was considered a homicide. The oldest victim was 73 while the youngest was a two year old baby girl. There was also a 16 year old male teen who died of a fentanyl overdose. The genders and races were pretty much equally distributed.

  1. Funny that ABQ Raw doesn’t mention the overwhelming majority of these deaths were already drug addicts, and as such represent a net win toward a Better, stronger, more civilized city.

    1. That is a bold and inconsiderate statement and show how calloused your heart really is. This is bigger then fantanul, this is genocide and you only have such a perspective until you lose someone close to you. . . And at this rate it couldn’t possibly miss you.
