Albuquerque –
The Albuquerque Police Department has closed I-25 northbound at Martin Luther King and I-25 southbound at the Big I, due to police activity.
A person caught in the traffic on I-25, witnessing the situation, reports that APD is trying to negotiate with an individual threatening to jump.
Northbound traffic, as observed on the NM DOT cams, is backed up beyond Cesar Chavez.
You can view the NM DOT cams here. If we learn more about this situation, we will update you, updates are posted below.
I25 Southbound @ the Big I and I25 Northbound @ Martin Luther King closed at this time in reference to police activity @abqfire

UPDATE:
As of 1:25 PM, the interstate remains closed. It appears as though APD is diverting I-25 SB traffic onto the I-40 WB lanes. APD is also blocking the northbound frontage road at MLK and Mountain.
UPDATE 2:
As of 1:55 PM, this situation is still ongoing.
APD seems to be blocking more frontage roads so drivers can’t accidentally drive onto the interstate.
UPDATE 3:
As of 2:05 PM, the individual that was threatening to jump surrendered to police, and will likely be taken to a local area hospital for further evaluation.
APD will reopen all lanes of travel on I-25, I-40, and the frontage road. As a result, traffic will be moving soon.
Let him jump.
Amen. Why should Better citizens have their Sundays disrupted by lesser specimens? Self exterminating vermin are the best kind of vermin.
Pretty much how I feel about church goers
Is I-25 North and South at MLK still Closed??
Thankyou!!
Hello, the interstate in both directions was reopened around 2:05 PM. We posted pics from the NM DOT cams around 2:12 PM, and traffic was moving again.
Thank you so much first responders, my heart sank right as i looked up and saw him, i drove right under him.
To see these other posts talking about “just jump” is shameful. We don’t know what this person was going through. But however you Alice this pie this person needs help not to be told to just jump. So thank you very much for your thoughts and best wishes
Well if this is what to expect from attention seekers, looking for attention and it worked, so everyone else is screwed. “Threatening” to jump is how attention seekers get their attention. Jumping onto a vehicle which would kill others, is selfish.
You have no idea what was going on in this person’s mind. Could it have been according to you just “attention seeking” maybe. Or maybe it was because of the training and patience that these first responders showed?
My one complaint about this situation and ones like it is that the city, state and county don’t help redirect the traffic. Knowing that the surface streets are going to be inundated with much more traffic than they are really meant for. Especially when you start driving commercial vehicles down these surface streets. Get the APD cadets out on these streets to help the traffic flow better. Start redirecting the traffic on the freeway to go up the ramp the wrong way. Get the traffic moving which will ultimately make talking the individual down easier. They won’t here people yelling just jump or honking their horns. Taking their frustrations out on other people.
