Abelito Anthony Rivera Jr. Booking photo
We reported yesterday about a homicide which had occurred at 10200 Central Ave SW. The APD call made reference to a person who was deceased outside of a mobile home. Abelito Anthony Rivera Jr. was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on an open count of murder for that call.
According to the criminal complaint, officers found a deceased male covered in debris and then Rivera Jr exited the residence making erratic statements. He told officers he “didn’t mean to do it.” The deceased male was identified as Abelito Rivera Sr. father to his killer.
The complaint goes on to say a neighbor heard Rivera Jr. and Rivera Sr. father arguing around midnight that day. The neighbor said he called Albuquerque Fire Rescue and was on hold for over an hour.
The complaint goes on to say that while Rivera Jr. was being escorted to the Mobile Crime Scene Command he stated his “feet hurt” and went on to say “I was stomping on my dad’s face because he is the devil.”
Additional court documents over the years show Rivera Jr. has a history of mental health issues and several domestic violence charges starting back in 2001.
When Rivera Sr. was found in the yard in the apparent shallow grave he had dirt, leaves, miscellaneous CDs, and a shovel on top of him.
Rivera Jr. is being charged with first degree murder in this case. This is ABQ Metro’s 62nd Homicide of 2022.
