NW Albuquerque –

An incident involving two drivers has occurred in the intersection of Paseo del Norte and Eagle Ranch Rd NW. The incident has left one of the drivers dead on scene. Law enforcement officers are currently on the scene, working to investigate the incident.

The Incident:

On July 3rd, 2023 at 1:42PM, the Albuquerque Police Department’s civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos reported to the media that APD officers were “shutting down traffic to investigate a critical-injury crash involving a pedestrian that occurred in the area of Paseo del Norte and Eagle Ranch Rd NW.” An alert was also posted to social media with the same advisory, that this was a “critical-injury crash involving a pedestrian.” When we received the email, the exact details of the crash were not provided by APD. However, we have learned from a witness that a pedestrian was run over in a road rage incident and the person has died.

When we arrived on scene, one of our reporters observed that a male individual was dead underneath a white Tesla. The other vehicle appeared to be a black Lexus sedan. Witnesses on scene said this was not a “critical-injury crash” and instead was a homicide by vehicle. Witnesses on scene said they saw some kind of dispute between the two drivers and both exited their vehicles. The man in the black Lexus appeared to have a gun. At some point the man in the white Tesla got back into his car and ran over the armed man.

APD’s Homicide Unit has been called out to investigate this incident.

Traffic Disruptions:

In response to the “critical-injury crash,” APD officers have taken necessary measures to manage the situation and facilitate the investigation. As a result, traffic in the surrounding area has been severely affected. Westbound Paseo del Norte and Coors Blvd, as well as Eagle Ranch Rd between Paseo del Norte and Paradise, are experiencing disruptions and delays.

Law enforcement personnel have taken the initiative to shut down traffic in the affected areas, ensuring the safety of all involved parties and creating an environment conducive to the investigation. It is essential for motorists in the vicinity to follow the directions of law enforcement officers and exercise patience during this challenging time.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area for the next several hours.

We will update you as we gather more information.
