Albuquerque foothills –

A late night alcohol fueled party in the foothills led to a man being stabbed to death by Marty Platero on July 20th, 2022. The stabbing happened near the La Luz Hiking Trail in the foothills. According to a criminal complaint, Bernalillo County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the trail around 3 in the morning.

According to a criminal complaint, when deputies arrived they found Ryan Spencer already dead from a stab wound and there was also a bloody knife near his body. Two other witnesses were on scene and said the group were all drinking alcohol together. Spencer and Platero exchanged insults and a struggle broke out between them. One of the witnesses tried to throw a crow bar at the two who were fighting but it stopped nothing.

The complaint goes on to say Platero admitted he blacked out during the incident and denied stabbing Platero. Detectives noted he had blood all over the front of his pants, shoes, shirtless chest, and torso area. His hands also had lacerations from the use of a knife.
