Northeast Albuquerque –
Two Albuquerque teens have now been charged in connection with a shooting that occurred at Villela Park on Wednesday evening.
According to police, the teens had arranged to meet at the park through social media. When they arrived, a 13-year-old boy produced a firearm, and the second individual, a 15-year-old boy, attempted to grab the gun. During the struggle, a single shot was fired. One of the teens was shot and the other teen suffered a likely stab wound. The wounds were not life-threatening to either teen.
Both boys were transported to a hospital for treatment. The 15-year-old was treated and released before being transported to the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center. The 13-year-old is still in the hospital.
Collaborating with the District Attorney’s Office, APD detectives worked to file charges against both teenagers. They have been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
