UPDATE: Gang of Thieves Cause Citywide Chaos, Officers Track Them Down in NE ABQ Then Shoot 1 of Them After Foot Chase

Albuquerque –

Around 5:15PM, APD says a gang of thieves were observed by robbery detectives robbing places on the Westside of Albuquerque. The cretins then drove to the eastside of Albuquerque in a stolen car and APD robbery detectives tracked the suspects to an Auto Zone near the McDonald’s on 2501 Carlisle Blvd. NE.

APD Police Chief Harold Medina said the detectives caught up to them at the AutoZone near the 2501 Carlisle Blvd location where the crooks shoplifted items while inside the Auto Zone. One suspect gave up quickly in the Auto Zone plot but a foot chase happened with one of the suspects. Thats when shots were fired by APD on the south side of the Mcdonald’s restaurant parking lot. The suspect at McD’s was shot by detectives and immediately taken to UNMH. The suspect not shot was taken into custody and will be booked at some point late tonight. No officers were injured during the incident.

Once the wounded suspect is released from the hospital, he will be booked into MDC on various charges.

This is the 13th officer involved shooting for APD during the year 2024.

    1. They really don’t. RAW beats out KRQE/KOB/KOAT combined and I bet they work on a fraction of the staff and budget. I’d love to see local tv news offer them a nightly crime report segment. So many people have no idea how bad it is out there, so politicians don’t get their feet held to the fire. But I suspect the news and the mayor/gov office are intertwined this way on purpose, and all the more reason we need these guys.

      1. What we need is accurate reporting. I mean trying to hype the story by using a misleading headline is that the best way to represent journalistic integrity?
I do agree with your point about how the other local news stations don’t cover some stories as much as ABQ Raw does. However those other outlets don’t just focus on crime/negative here in the city. They also cover other things state wide nationally and internationally. Like ABQ Raw didn’t even cover the homicide in Valencia county the other day. While that’s obviously not here in ABQ. A lot of people live and work both there and here in the city. So the tie in is definitely there I believe. Also ABQ Raw only seems to cover negative going on here in the city. Which is their prerogative but is it balanced? Now I live pretty much in the heart of the area they love to cover most. So I’m more than aware of the goings on here in the area. With that said there’s definitely positive things going on as well. Be nice if they could sprinkle a lil of that I’m as well as all the negative that they are known for.

  1. So I watched the YouTube video and obviously read the article and all I hear is 2 people not a gang. I’ve read a lot of your coverage on various things and honestly it really seems you all like to exaggerate the facts. Not exactly sure why you all choose to do that. I’m guessing with a headline that uses the word “gang” as opposed to 2 guys will grab more attention. Which would probably amount to more traffic and views to your site.
Why not at least ask why it took apd so long to track this “gang” down? I know you all have said apd/the city don’t give you all the time of day. Can’t help but wonder if maybe that’s because you all exaggerate or misrepresent what’s being said by apd/the city? Don’t get me wrong I’m in no way a support of the apd chief or the mayor. However I do feel it raises some legitimate questions as to why they treat you all the way they do.

      1. Ummm did you watch the YouTube video. They clearly state multiple times 2 suspects. In fact I watched it more than once. Also Raw has been critical of how APD is known for putting out misleading statements that Raw quoted that APD they then later on retracted. Not to mention 2 wrong don’t make a right. If the truth is it’s not a gang but just 2 dummies then just go with that. People who know Raw will still read the story. I mean obviously not only did I read it and watch the accompanying YouTube video but I’m also posting comments.
