According to a criminal complaint, deputies first contacted a family member at a nearby urgent care facility who reported that the suspect, identified as Saul Hernandez, 18, had brandished a firearm the previous day, causing him to fear for his life. The calling party stated he decided to notify law enforcement because he was afraid to return home.

While deputies were taking that report, another family member contacted law enforcement and said that earlier in the day on January 22nd, Hernandez had confronted him inside the residence with a firearm after loading it. Hernandez allegedly threatened to kill him and ordered him to leave the home. That individual left the residence immediately due to fear for his safety.

BCSO deputies responded to the home on Camino Cuatro SW and made contact with Hernandez at the front door. The criminal complaint says that Hernandez told deputies they needed a warrant to speak with him and then closed the door. Shortly afterward, deputies on scene reported hearing a sound consistent with a gunshot coming from inside the home.

Deputies observed no movement inside the residence for an extended period, and despite repeated attempts to make contact, including audible public announcements, Hernandez did not respond for more than three hours. The criminal complaint said deputies were concerned for his safety with the sound of a gunshot and they ultimately entered the home.

Deputies later arrested Hernandez, who was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center at 2:08 AM on January 23. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
