According to the criminal complaint, APD officers arrived on scene and received a description of Mendez from the victim. The victim stated the offender walked into a building doorway and was yelling erratically while threatening the victim. He said Mendez used derogatory and racial names toward him. She had already fled the scene before officers arrived.

While we were in the area, we observed Mendez walking eastbound on Central trying to blend in and avoid capture. APD officers also immediately recognized her and swarmed in to capture her. She was quickly arrested without incident. She was placed into the back of a police unit and officers tried to interview her. She was combative and used racial slurs toward officers.

The “gun” ended up being a handgun shaped lighter and her purse had drug paraphernalia inside it.

Mendez has nine criminal cases pending in Bernalillo County with three felony cases happening within the last month.

In this case, she was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
