SANTA FE — Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham traveled to Antalya, Turkey on Saturday to attend the thirty-first Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

At the summit, U.S. elected officials, world leaders and climate experts will discuss joint solutions to combat climate change and build a sustainable future. Caroline Buerkle, deputy chief of operations in the Governor’s Office, is staffing the governor on the trip. The Climate Registry is paying their travel costs.

Governor Lujan Grisham will return to New Mexico on Sunday, Nov. 15.

We reached out to her office and asked if appearing virtually was an option, is she traveling private or commercial jet, and what procedures will be in place for the Governor and staff to use alternative travel to reduce emissions. We have not heard back from her office regarding these questions.

While she is out of the country, Lt. Gov. Howie Morales will preside over New Mexico state government.
