Albuquerque –

The Albuquerque Police Department sent us updates on two crashes that happened within hours of each other.

Eubank Boulevard SE and Central Avenue NE

On July 13, 2024 at approximately 10:30p.m. the on call Fatal Crash Team was called out to a serious injury crash located on Eubank and Central.  Through the on-scene investigation, they learned that a male subject, who has yet to be identified, was in the Circle K gas station.

The male subject was intoxicated and security officers asked him to leave the business.  The male left the Circle K walking north on Eubank.  The individual attempted to cross Eubank when he was struck by a gold Honda SUV in the center lane.  The pedestrian received significant injuries from the crash and was transported to the University of New Mexico hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle was not intoxicated.  Speed does not appear to be a factor in this crash.  This investigation is in the early stages and is on-going.

Oak Street NE and Lomas Boulevard NE

On July 14, 2024 shortly before 3:00a.m. the Fatal Crash Team was called out to a fatal motorcycle crash located at Oak and Lomas.  After finishing the previous call-out they responded to this scene.

Through the on-scene investigation they learned a motorcyclist was traveling Northbound on Oak from Martin Luther King.  The motorcyclist was approaching Lomas when it appears he was unaware of the curve in the road.  The motorcyclist left the roadway and struck a speed limit sign.  The motorcyclist received significant injuries due to the crash and was pronounced deceased on scene.

A witness to the crash did remain on scene and gave a statement to field officers.  The witness stated he saw the motorcyclist in the downtown area and knew him from riding motorcycles together in the past.  The witness stated the driver had consumed alcohol.

At this time it is unknown if the motorcyclist was intoxicated.  It does not appear speed played a significant factor in the crash.  This investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing.
