Albuquerque –
Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department were dispatched to a shooting at the Sandia Vista Apartments, located at 901 Tramway Blvd. NE. When officers arrived, they found one person already dead on scene.
At this time, police have not stated whether or not they have taken a suspect into custody.
APD’s Homicide Unit have responded to the complex to begin an investigation.
We received a video from a resident at the complex showing APD’s Mobile Crime Scene RV stationed outside one of the white two-story apartment buildings. Police patrol units could be seen blocking off portions of the parking lot around the Crime Scene RV. It is currently unknown whether the shooting occurred inside an apartment or in the parking lot.
At this stage of the investigation, authorities have not disclosed many details. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.
Since the victim was a Federal employee, on his way to work at Sandia, there should be plenty of Federal charges for killing a Federal employee. The law covers individuals who kill or attempt to kill a federal officer or employee while they are engaged in or on account of the performance of their official duties. En route to the job site entails “on account of”, for they are present and on the way in order to engage in official duties. Federal charges, please.
