Update:

On June 16, 2026 around 10:35 PM, officers from Albuquerque Police Department’s Southeast Area Command were called out to a vehicle versus pedestrian accident near Alvarado Dr. NE and San Juan Rd. NE.

Albuquerque Fire was on scene either just before APD arrived or shortly after and advised that the person struck appeared to have a wound consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The person was declared dead at the scene shortly after AFR and APD arrived.

As the situation unfolded, given the incident was initially thought to be a fatal car crash, Albuquerque Police Department’s Motor Unit responded to investigate after the incident was initially reported as a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash.

At some point, while documenting the victim’s injuries, investigators discovered puncture wounds that were not consistent with a vehicle collision, prompting further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
