APD investigators scan the scene of a homicide victim on the eastbound side of I-40 near exit 153.
Westside Albuquerque –
According to Gilbert Gallegos, APD’s Civilian Director of Communications, this afternoon, APD Officers responded to a call near 98th Street, south of I-40. When Officers arrived, they found a dead body in a field northwest of the Flying J Travel Center. The 98th Street corridor has seen a rise in violent, drug, property, and petty crimes in recent years.
APD’s Homicide Unit had been called out to investigate and were investigating a mesa area just before the 153 exit going eastbound on I-40. The exit will be closed until police finish it’s investigation. The exit is used by travelers and semi-trucks to exit to the travel centers and restaurants along 98th.
This is APD’s fourth homicide investigation of 2023 and the second homicide reported today, January 21, 2023. This is a developing story. An update will be provided at a later time.
