Early this morning, at around 2:15 AM, a serious two-vehicle crash unfolded on southbound I-25 near the Osuna Exit. The initial findings indicate that a 2007 Lexus SUV was speeding southbound when it collided with a 2001 black Cadillac in the second lane of I-25. The impact was so forceful that it caused significant damage to the rear side of the Cadillac.
Tragically, one passenger in the Cadillac suffered severe injuries and is currently in critical condition at a local area hospital. The driver of the Lexus, later identified as Alex Tafoya, age 42, attempted to flee the scene, but was swiftly apprehended by the New Mexico State Police and brought back to the crash site. Inside the Lexus, open containers were discovered, and the driver appeared to be impaired. As a result, he was arrested on multiple charges, including leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily harm, vehicular homicide resulting in great bodily harm, and open container violations.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be made available as it unfolds. According to APD, traffic on southbound I-25 was restored around 7:25 AM.
