NE ABQ – According to APD’s Public Information Officer Chase Jewell, around 1am, APD’s SWAT team was activated to an apartment complex in the area of 2900 Lexington PL NE, in regards to a barricaded subject who was wanted by the police.
The APD SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Team were reportedly on scene trying to apprehend the individual. Any additional details provided by APD were limited.
The SWAT call reportedly ended at approximately 4AM.
UPDATE: The suspect apprehended from this SWAT call was wanted in connection with Saturday afternoon’s homicide at an apartment complex at 1100 Coal Ave SW. The suspect arrested, Ruben Benavidez, 17, was booked into the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center on an open counter of murder and tampering with evidence.
During the course of APD’s investigation, Homicide detectives discovered that the victim, Cedric Garcia-Guzman, was dating Benavidez’s mother. Benavidez became upset with Garcia-Guzman over the relationship with Benavidez’s mother, which ultimately lead to the shooting death of Garcia-Guzman.
