APD SWAT Unit Takes Over Effort to Detain Suspect in War Zone

Around 6:05PM, the Albuquerque Police Department’s SWAT Unit began efforts to detain a suspect at an apartment in the War Zone.

Earlier this evening, detectives from APD’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit tried to stop a vehicle driven by a suspect with a felony warrant. The suspect fled the traffic stop, which was reportedly near Jackson Wink MMA Academy on Broadway and MLK. APD’s helicopter tracked the vehicle to the area of Central Ave. and San Pedro Blvd., N.E. The suspect was observed running into an apartment at 6101 Central Ave. N.E.

APD SWAT officers are currently attempting to make contact with the suspect to negotiate a safe surrender.
