On August 25th, 2022, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office held a grand opening of it’s satellite Coronado Mall Substation.

Sheriff Manuel Gonzales III, Bernalillo County Manager Julie Morgas Baca, and Randy Sanchez the general manager of Coronado Mall spoke about the collaboration to combat retail crime at Coronado Mall.

“So, for those would be thieves look out, there is a new Sheriff in town,” said Randy Sanchez general manager of Coronado Mall.

In past previous years Albuquerque Police Department had a substation inside the same location inside the mall. We asked APD why they no longer were in the space and they did not return our inquiries.

“I don’t know the backstory with the Albuquerque Police Department. We are not here to answer their calls. If there is a crime being committed, we will address it, but they are responsible for taking their calls,” said Sheriff Manny Gonzales III.

The office will be used for operations, recruiting, and public relations.
