The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Luke Alvarez, which occurred on October 13, 2025, at approximately 11:31am, near the intersection of La Vega and Avenida Dolores Huerta (Bridge). On October 14th, BCSO announced that Luke Alvarez, 35, had died after being shot.

Through the investigation, detectives identified a vehicle of interest which they are attempting to locate. The vehicle is believed to be a 2013-2019 red Ford Escape. The vehicle has a CarMax logo on the left rear hatch. The vehicle’s windows are tinted except for the front passenger side window. It is believed the vehicle’s windshield was damaged during the incident. The vehicle last displayed New Mexico license plate AWMK78.
