Driver Crashes Into Light Pole at Eubank and Constitution, Injures One

Albuquerque –

Around 1:00 PM, a serious crash was called into dispatch at the intersection of Eubank Blvd NE and Constitution Ave NE. Albuquerque Police Department officers diverted traffic around the intersection after a driver knocked down a traffic light pole, which landed across multiple lanes of traffic.

According to initial reports, the driver was allegedly huffing paint while behind the wheel. Witnesses stated the vehicle first crashed into an object near Menaul and Juan Tabo, then left that scene and continued driving before slamming into the light pole and another vehicle at Eubank and Constitution.

It remains unclear whether any individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment of injuries.

If the driver is taken into custody or formally charged, we will provide an update as more information becomes available.

The traffic signals at the intersection are currently not functioning, and drivers should treat it as a four-way stop. As of the time of publication, Traffic Engineering and PNM crews were en route to set up temporary stop signs and make repairs. We heard the estimated delay for restoration is over an hour.
