Albuquerque –
Former UFC and MMA star Diego “The Nightmare” Sanchez is in hot water with authorities after he fired a gun from a car while he passed a traffic crash in Albuquerque.
According to a criminal complaint, an Albuquerque Police Officer was helping direct traffic at a motor vehicle crash at I-40 Westbound near University when the officer heard a loud pop. A police service aide told officers they saw a passenger in a Jeep Gladiator fire a weapon.
APD officers initiated a felony stop and detained Sanchez and his barber, Derrick Montoya. The complaint says the officer asked Sanchez if he fired a gun and he stated no. Montoya stated he saw Sanchez fire the gun and did not know where Sanchez pulled the gun from.
The complaint goes on to say the officer observed live rounds inside the vehicle and a spent casing on the floorboard of the passenger side. The officer found the gun inside the vehicle.
Sanchez is charged with shooting at or from a motor vehicle and negligent use of a fire arm. He was transported to the prisoner transport center without incident.
Sanchez was booked into MDC on July 18 at 12:01AM.
