GUN TOTING ROAD RAGER BOOKED, BOWL OF NOODLES INVOLVED

On Thursday afternoon May 30th, 2024, during rush hour, we heard that there was police activity at the intersection of I-40 and Louisiana. Apparently an APD Sergeant was waved down by a couple in a vehicle who wanted to report that they were shot at by another driver.  The witnessing victims stated that they were driving east on I-40 west of I-25 when a vehicle cut them off.

The victim vehicle did catch up to the vehicle who cut them off and they began following it. The vehicle who cut them off was a gold or tan Toyota SUV occupied by one male.  The victim occupants got angry at the Toyota driver for cutting them off and began trying to pass it on the left side. The victim vehicle began honking at the Toyota and even at one point threw a bowl of noodles at it while cussing at the driver.

The Toyota driver identified as Billy Beare, 60, of Albuquerque, now decided to take this road rage incident to a new level and introduced a black gun which he retrieved from his glovebox.  According to the victims, the Toyota driver then pointed the gun at them and fired a single shot at them while they travelled east on 40. At this point the victims pulled off the road and found an officer to report the incident to.

Officers did respond and interviewed all involved and eventually arrested the Toyota driver Billy Beare for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  A subsequent search of the Toyota did locate one revolver handgun from inside the Toyota.  The gun was chambered for six rounds but only five were loaded. When officers asked Billy Beare where the sixth round was he told them he had shot at scary dogs earlier in the day.  Billy Beare was booked into MDC where he will eventually answer to the charges in court.

  1. Sounds like the “victim vehicle” needlessly escalated the situation. Maybe we should lament that ol’ Billy’s aim wasn’t better.

  2. Cutting someone off isn’t road rage. Chasing someone down, honking and throwing things at their vehicle is. The “victims” totally escalated the situation and should be charged.

  3. ABQ Raw forgot to mention the “victims” have long rap sheets for abuse, Meth trafficking and multiple other issues. The multiple “victims” aggravated the situation and caused Mr. Beare to fear for his own safety (see the police report). It is interesting how one-sided this story is.

  4. I’m really disappointed in ABQ RAW’s very one sided (almost biased) coverage of this story. Review the police report, there is far more to this story than you’re reporting. I expect so much more of RAW than this, you’ve lost my respect on this one.
