An AFR firefighter walks past a collapsed house that could be caused by a gas explosion.
Albuquerque, NM –
At approximately 2:15 PM, emergency services received reports of a house explosion in the vicinity of 4000 Ridgeley Ave NE. This is near Morningside Dr. and Copper Ave. NE. According to the log from PulsePoint, AFR was informed that one person and two dogs might be trapped.
Video posted online showed what we believe to be the home owner attempting to rescue his pets. The pets were in the back yard of the house and were safely rescued by the owner. We were told on scene no one was hurt in the house. The house was a totally collapsed.
While on scene, we observed multiple AFR units are on scene. We were also advised by APD that they were concerned about other structures or homes in the neighborhood having similar issues as the house that had already exploded. PNM officials, AFR personnel, and other safety professionals were advising the neighborhood on what to do. We could see debris from the blast a 50 or 60 feet from where the house once stood.
While on scene an Albuquerque Police officer advised people to move back from the area.
“We’re basically standing on a bomb,” said an APD officer on scene.
We will update you if and when we learn more information from AFR.
