Albuquerque –
On September 8th, 2026, the Albuquerque Police Department received calls about a man walking around waving a knife near 2700 Carlisle Blvd. NE. A large police prescene flooded the area and found the man just north of the address.
APD identified the man as Jarius Atole and said the man alleged his girlfriend had cut him with a knife. He claimed it happened the day before. His girlfriend who also called police said Atole battered her and broke her phone.
While all this was going, 30-year-old Donovan Mason was watching the police respond to this lovers quarrel. He did not choose popcorn for this live action street theatre treat, instead he decided to use drugs. A few moments later APD approached Mason.
According to a criminal complaint, they observed Mason using a lighter to smoke drugs from foil. The drug was identified as fentanyl.
While on scene we saw APD officers questioning Mason and after a few minutes his warrants came back. He was put into handcuffs and led to the patrol car.
In the battery case, Atole was summoned for the battery charges. Mason was charged for his drug possession charges and outstanding warrants.
