Man found Dead in University Area Duplex Fire, APD Investigates it as a Homicide

University Area Albuquerque – Around 7:30AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to a single story duplex fire at 2511 Silver Ave. SE. This location is near the University of New Mexico. When AFR arrived, they noticed smoke coming from a duplex and they made entry into the buildings.

An APD Detective processes the scene for evidence at the city’s latest violent crime scene

Upon search of the buildings, they found one male victim inside and they were able to pull him out of the structure. It is unclear what injuries he sustained, but the injuries warranted a violent crimes call out to Albuquerque Police. APD’s Homicide Unit is now assisting in this investigation.

APD could be seen gathering and processing evidence at the scene.

We will update the story if any more information becomes available.

Per the email that we received from APD’s civilian PIO, this scene was reportedly deemed a homicide. This the Albuquerque Metro area’s 23rd homicide of 2023.
