A BCSO Deputy talks on the phone during a homicide investigation at the 500 block of Rencher Ave SE in Albuquerque.
South Valley Albuquerque –
On August 5th, 2023, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a shots fired call near the 500 block of Rencher Ave SE in Albuquerque’s South Valley. When deputies arrived on scene they found a male with at least one gunshot wound.

BCSO deputies received the initial call around 5:15PM said Sheriff Office Public Information Coordinator Jayme Fuller-Gonzales.
While on scene we observed homicide detectives conducting their investigation at a corner lot on Rencher Ave. Family members were seen gathered at the scene and giving information to the investigators while mourning the loss of their loved one. “That was my cousin,” an unidentified person said of the male victim.
This is the 91st homicide of 2023 for the Albuquerque metro area and the 7th homicide scene BCSO has investigated.
