Man Shot Near Balloon Fiesta Park

Albuquerque –

Around 9AM, the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a shots fired call in an open space area near Balloon Fiesta Park. When they arrived, they found a male with at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

When information first came in, it stated that a man and women were walking in the open space and had an argument. A shot rang out and the man had reportedly been shot. Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the scene, and police started to investigate the scene. While being taken to the hospital, the man stated his lover tried to kill him.

The girlfriend disputed this and told police the man walked into the woods and shot himself. He turned around and even showed the wound to her.

An Albuquerque Parks and Recreation worker saw some of the incident and APD had them stay at the scene while they investigated.

Freya, a dog on loan from the ATF to APD was brought to the scene to sniff for evidence of a gun crime.

At this time, no one had been charged in this case and we will update you if anyone is charged.
