NW Albuquerque – Around 8:30PM, Albuquerque Police and Albuquerque Fire Rescue were dispatched to the area of Central Ave and Atrisco Blvd SW in reference to a motorcycle crash. When they arrived on scene they located a deceased individual and another crash victim with serious injuries. The second rider, a female was transported to UNMH but later died from her injuries sustained in the crash.

An SUV was part of the crash and airbags could be seen deployed from the impact of the motorcycle. The SUV came to rest in front of Filiberto’s Mexican Food restaurant at the southeast corner of Atrisco and Central.

APD sworn officer and public information officer Darren DeAguero released a statement:

This evening, officers attempted to conduct traffic stop on a motorcycle carrying two individuals. The driver of the motorcycle failed to stop and fled.

The motorcycle collided with a vehicle, resulting in the death of one of the motorcyclists at the scene. The passenger was transported to the hospital yet later succumbed to her injuries.

The occupants of the vehicle were also taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, the affected area has been closed in both directions.

It is likely that both directions of travel will remain shut down for several hours while traffic officers and MATF detectives investigate. This is an ongoing investigation and is considered an in-custody death because APD attempted to stop the motorcycle originally.

We will update the story if any more information becomes available.
