Multi-Vehicle Crash Closes Lanes on I-40 Westbound Near Carlisle

Just before 4:00 PM, a crash was reported on westbound (WB) I-40 near Carlisle. Initial reports indicate that at least four vehicles are involved, and the three right lanes along with the shoulder are currently closed.

The extent of injuries is unknown at this time, but units from Albuquerque Fire Rescue and Albuquerque Ambulance Services arrived on scene shortly after the crash was reported. According to New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) cameras, two of the vehicles appear to be significantly damaged.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is believed to have initially responded to the crash. Drivers are urged to use caution and watch for emergency personnel who may be in the roadway assisting victims or managing traffic.

Update:

As of 5:03 PM, lanes of traffic are still affected by this accident. However, some vehicles have been moved to the far right lanes. The NM DOT/NMROADS dynamic signs still indicate the three right lanes are closed. A flatbed wrecker arrived to remove one of the disabled cars.

Update 2:

As of 6:00 PM, per NM DOT/NMROADS cameras and dynamic signs, this crash has been cleared.
