Albuquerque –
Around 10:20 PM on August 7, individuals began to phone 911 to report a person on the bridge on Interstate 25 southbound at Paseo del Norte. Emergency dispatchers received calls from concerned witnesses who reported seeing someone on the bridge who appeared to be contemplating jumping.
Before police could arrive to the location where the person was, they’d jumped into lanes of I-25 southbound at Paseo del Norte. The person struck, reportedly a woman, was hit by at least one car driving on I-25 southbound.
At the time of the incident, at least two cars were parked on the left shoulder of Interstate 25 southbound, with their occupants exiting their vehicles.
Officers from the Albuquerque Police Department promptly shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 25 at Paseo.
The New Mexico State Police eventually took over the investigation and APD handled traffic control in and around the area.
