UPDATE: Man who was shot earlier this week has now died

NW Albuquerque –

The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person in critical condition early Monday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Bellrose Avenue NW & 5th Street NW around 5AM after receiving reports of a shooting. When Officers arrived, they found one person with gunshot wounds that appeared to be life threatening.

According to reports, the victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to a local hospital, where they are currently in critical condition.

APD reports that a Serious Crimes Call out has been initiated, and detectives from various units are on their way to take over the investigation.

UPDATE:

APD’s civilian Director of Communications Gilbert Gallegos emailed media a case update today 5/11/2023 and said: the victim in this case, Colin Hunter, died on Tuesday as a result of his wounds. Hunter was shot by an unknown offender shortly after 5 a.m. on May 8. Detectives with the Gun Violence Reduction Unit have transferred responsibility of the case to the Homicide Unit.

This is Albuquerque’s 45th homicide of 2023.

The investigation is still ongoing. We will update you as more information becomes available.
