Rio Rancho/Albuquerque –
On October 30, 2024, a shooting near 2nd St. SE and Inca Rd. in Rio Rancho left a 15-year-old boy, identified by family as Adrian Maestas Jr, in critical condition. He was taken to UNMH following the incident. A family member shared an image, reportedly from a doorbell camera, showing another young male last seen with Adrian before the shooting. The family is asking for help identifying this person, hoping that he may know more about what happened.
This morning, a social media post from Adrian’s family announced that he passed away around midnight. The post requests prayers for his parents, siblings, and extended family. Adrian is pictured in a Rio Rancho High School football jersey. By searching the hashtag #justiceforAdrian or #justiceforAdrianJr, you can see many people pleading for the public’s help.
Residents in the area with video surveillance are asked to please consider reviewing footage for potential evidence.

On Tuesday, October 30th, at 4:10pm, Rio Rancho Dispatch received a call regarding a shooting near the intersection of Inca Rd and 2nd St. SE. Officers arrived on scene and located a juvenile male with an apparent gun shot wound to the head. Rio Rancho Police and Rio Rancho Fire Rescue began rendering life saving aid. The victim was transported to an area hospital for trauma care where he remains in critical condition.
The investigation is still ongoing and active at this time. The Rio Rancho Police Criminal Investigations Division is following up all leads to identify all persons involved in this incident in order to file appropriate criminal charges which will lead to successful prosecution.
We extend our deepest sympathy to everyone affected by this tragedy. Our hearts go out to all those impacted, and we stand with you during this difficult time.
