On June 22,2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Albuquerque Police Department Motors Unit was called out to the intersection of 98th St and Tower Rd SW, to investigate a serious injury crash. This Involved an ATV and a SUV.

According to APD, two male individuals that were not wearing helmets were riding on the ATV. The SUV was occupied by the driver only. The preliminary scene investigation determined that the ATV was traveling north on 98th St, and the SUV was southbound on 98th St. making a left hand turn. During the SUV’s turn it was struck by the ATV in the right front fender area, throwing the two male riders from the ATV.

The driver of the ATV was transported to UNMH and is listed in critical condition. The passenger of the ATV had no life threatening injuries and was treated on scene. The SUV driver was also checked on scene. At this time, it appears speed maybe a factor for the ATV. This is an ongoing investigation.

This area has seen a rise in ATV vs vehicle crashes in the last few months.
