U.S. Attorney of New Mexico Sends Letter to DA Bregman Regarding DWI Scandal

Albuquerque –

We have received from a source, a letter from U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez, who serves as the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.

The letter provides us with a glimpse into the timeline of how the FBI raids came into play. A portion of the letter states:

On January 2, 2024, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico informed your

office that an ongoing, covert federal investigation involving the APD had identified

information which would implicate your office’s responsibilities pursuant to Giglio v. United

States. On that date, we also provided the names of four affected officers to your office. Given

that this investigation is ongoing, I appreciate your understanding that the U.S. Attorney’s

Office is unable to share with you—or any other person who is not a part of the federal

investigation—any further details.

As of today, January 25th, 2024, no federal documents have been released in the matter, and we have pieced together the timeline of events.

CORRECTION:

We are issuing a correction to clarify that the letter did not come directly from then-U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez or his office, as previously reported. A source close to the investigation provided the letter, which was addressed to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman. Our original story incorrectly stated: “We have received a letter from U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez, who serves as the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico. The letter was addressed to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman.”
