Albuquerque

At around around 8:50PM on September 6th, 2023, Albuquerque Police Department officers heard gunshots and received 911 calls about an apparent shooting near the Avenida Cesar Chavez and University Blvd intersections . When officers arrived they came across a newer model Dodge Ram pickup truck with two gunshot victims inside. One of the victims was a 11-year-old boy who died at the scene. An adult female was also taken to University of New Mexico Hospital in critical condition.

On September 7th, 2023, APD and Mayor Tim Keller held a joint press conference to release more information about the shooting. The Albuquerque Isotopes were in the late stages of a baseball game when patrons were leaving the stadium. One of those was a family leaving Isotopes Park in a newer Dodge Ram pickup truck and they were caught up in a shooting incident.

APD Police Chief Harold Medina confirmed the incident was a result of an apparent road rage incident and 17 shots were fired at the victims truck. 14 of those shots hit the truck killing the child and critically injuring his apparent aunt. Chief Medina went on to say they have an idea about a suspect vehicle but are refusing to give the public the description until another time. Chief Medina did say that whenever they decide to release the vehicle information that “people in the community will recognize the type of people who drive this type of car”.

This is Albuquerque’s 107th homicide of 2023. APD urged anyone that has any information regarding this homicide case to call 505-242-COPS.

We will update the suspect vehicle in the story when APD releases the information.
