Albuquerque –
Earlier tonight, we reported a breaking news story concerning the Albuquerque Police Department responding to the Speedway gas station at the intersection of San Mateo and Cutler NE. We have now learned more information about what happened. Witnesses told us they saw two people being loaded into an ambulance at the Speedway and saw what appeared to be one deceased man on the ground.
One witness told us that a man was pointing a gun at gas station patrons before the police shooting. When APD arrived on the scene they shot and killed the armed suspect. The armed man was said to raise his gun toward officers and they fired at him killing him. During the shooting, APD officers possibly struck at least three bystanders with gunfire. APD confirmed to media that no officers were injured during the incident.
During a press briefing, APD Police Chief Harold Medina said the firearm from the suspect appeared to be manipulated, he was pointing a gun, but it was empty. Medina also stated a four-year-old child was involved in the incident and the offender had pointed the gun at one point during the incident. Chief Medina said two victims ran away from the scene and were found on a side street. A third victim went to a nearby home and called police.
We asked Chief Medina at the press briefing if officers were responsible for any, or some of the bystanders getting hit by officers bullets but he indicated it was too early in the investigation to comment on that.
A witness shared a video to us of the aftermath showing a swarm of APD officers converging on the front of a gas station entrance. A man was dead against a car in the parking lot of the Speedway and it appeared a gun was by his body. There were several victims lying on the ground and against a wall as officers approached them all to render aid.
This is the 3rd straight controversial shooting by APD. During all three incidents a suspect was suspect killed by police.

Stay armed my brothers, police can NOT save you.
Good to hear no officers were uninjured. However, how were the other bystanders shot? Is this the Wild West? I hope this isn’t another situation where the APD come in gun slinging without regard to public safety or proper procedure. The media needs to follow up on this and make sure the public knows ALL THE FACTS of this incident.
“Good to hear no officers were uninjured.”
Mouth breather.
Poor training, I hope this is debriefed and training department wide is implemented.
It’s becoming common practice to shoot bystanders and each other at APD.
Sounds like they should have shot the suspect sooner, in a more tactical manner…
