On Sunday, May 25th, 2025, the Albuquerque Police and Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to the 1300 block of Tres Ritos St. SW for an unresponsive 1-year-old boy. It was learned the baby was left in a hot car, and relatives called 911. The baby boy died at the scene.
Albuquerque Police public information officer Gilbert Gallegos provided an update and gave details of how the baby died. He said during the investigation, APD found out that the baby’s parents left him with a relative in the morning. The relative went back to the house on Tres Ritos SW, where the baby was left in a truck. Investigators found out that the baby was left with the babysitter around 10:30AM and the baby was found in the truck around 5PM.
“The child apparently was left in the truck, family went off to do their thing. And at some point, family members contacted this person who was responsible for the child, and realized that he (the baby) wasn’t in the home,” said Gallegos
Gallegos went on to say the family moved the child into the house to start CPR. After CPR attempts on the baby were unsuccessful the child was pronounced dead at the scene. Numerous family members and neighbors were interviewed at the scene. The person who was responsible for the infant did leave the scene. Gallegos said the person returned to the scene a short time later to talk to APD investigators on what happened.
At the press conference today, Gallegos stated no charges have been filed against the babysitter as of today. The case is still being investigated by APD’s Crimes Against Children’s Unit (CACU).
