UPDATE: Person Killed Trying to Defend His Home in SW ABQ

Albuquerque –

A Southwest Albuquerque neighborhood is in shock after waking up to see the Albuquerque Police Department investigating the latest homicide of 2023.

According to a witnesses, around 5:30AM, they say they saw police arrive to a house on the 10100 block of Cartagena Ave SW. Shortly after, they saw a man being loaded into an ambulance.

The witness, who didnt want to be named, told us that the man apparently died at the hospital. The witness told us that the man killed was the homeowner, and he was apparently protecting his home from intruders. While on the scene, we observed an adult female crying while talking to homicide detectives.

We will update the story when we get more information. This is the 139th homicide of 2023 in the Albuquerque area.

UPDATE:

Just after 3:00 PM, we recieved an email from APD’s civilian PIO, Gilbert Gallegos, which said:

“APD homicide detectives are investigating a deadly shooting that took place this morning in Southwest Albuquerque.

 

Officers were dispatched shortly after 4 a.m. to a shooting reported at 10108 Cartagena Ave., S.E. Officers located an adult male with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

 

The victim, later identified Adrian Vallejos, 34, was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his wounds. This case is being investigated as a homicide.”
