A tense standoff occurred with Sedillo at the Econo Lodge on April 7th, 2026 with APD surrounding the front of his room. A girlfriend of Sedillo’s exited the room and told police that he was hiding under the bed and he refused to come out.

APD gave commands for Sedillo to peacefully exit for more than 2.5 hours. They used some of their breaching tools to open the hotel door and flew drones into the room to see what he was doing inside. They did in fact observe Sedillo inside the room hiding underneath the bed.

Sedillo eventually surrendered and his girlfriend was waiting outside the crime scene tape. In a semi romantic ending they both shouted: “I love you.” to each other.

Sedillo even said, “Don’t forget about me!” She responded back with “I won’t, babe! I love you!”

Sedillo was checked out by AFR and then taken to MDC on his felony warrants.

BACKGROUND ON THE FELONY CASE:

On Feb. 25, an APD officer patrolling near Central and Indiana, in the area of the Smoke City Smoke Shop, spotted a parked Dodge Charger registered to a woman with an active warrant. When the officer initiated a stop, the female and her passenger, Robert Sedillo, attempted to exit but were detained. The officer observed both occupants attempting to make stealthy movements and saw a white powdered substance and a plastic tooter in plain view.

A records check confirmed Sedillo had three misdemeanor warrants. Assisting officers arrived and took him into custody. After initially refusing, the female later consented to a vehicle search. During the search, officers found a crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine inside a container on the passenger side, along with a locked safe that officers seized pending a search warrant.

While in custody, Sedillo claimed ownership of the contents of the vehicle. A field test later returned a presumptive positive result for narcotics. Officers arrested Sedillo on his outstanding warrants and for possession with intent to distribute.

This incident ultimately led to yesterday’s police activity at the Econo Lodge near 57th Street and Iliff Rd NW, where officers with the Albuquerque Police Department arrested Sedillo on a felony warrant for failure to appear.

We will update this story if anything else happens.
