On December 11, 2023, at 3101 Carlisle Blvd NE, an event triggered a swift response from law enforcement. The incident, reported at 11:53 hours, was a carjacking in progress with a woman trying to take control of a vehicle by force. The suspect car jacker was indentified as 30-year-old Kassandra Romero of Albuquerque.

According to a criminal complaint, Romero suddenly approached a victim, seized her vehicle, and attempted to drive away in it. This caused the victim to sustain injuries after hitting her head on the pavement.

The situation escalated as Romero, unable to operate the vehicle, moved on, attempting to break into other parked cars in the vicinity.

The Albuquerque Police Department located Romero at a nearby business and took her into custody. At that business, she was attempting to carjack a second vehicle and failed. She did injure a male who was trying to stop the second carjacking. He was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries during this major felony escapade.

Furthermore, a search of Romero yielded illicit substances and controlled pills found in her possession, leading to the tagging of narcotics into evidence. The case has been forwarded to the APD impact unit for further investigation.

Romero remains in custody, pending legal proceedings as authorities continue their inquiries into the attempted carjacking.
