Wrong Way Driver Stopped from Killing Innocent Albuquerque Drivers

On June 13th, 2023, Bernalillo County Deputies were dispatched to Paseo Del Norte and 2nd St. in reference to a wrong way driver. Witnesses told dispatch that an older maroon van was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Pase Del Norte. The van caused a vehicle crash as they were trying to avoid being hit head on.

According to a criminal complaint, A witness followed the van to a Circle K Gas Station. At the gas station BCSO deputies made contact with 63-year-old William Dorsey of Albuquerque.

The complaint goes on to say the deputy observed a strong odor of alcohol and bloodshot watery eyes from Dorsey. Dorsey denied having any drinks and also denied driving the wrong way on Paseo Del Norte.

Dorsey refused to answer any of the deputies questions, and also refused field sobriety tests and a breathalyzer test. Dorsey was also driving without a license. He was charged with aggravated DWI, driving the wrong way, reckless driving, and no driver’s license.
